Frequently asked questions
Straight answers to the 59 questions business owners ask us most, about pricing, bookkeeping, taxes, payroll, advisory, technology, and working with RCN.
Getting started
Start with a free consultation. We learn about your business and goals, recommend the right mix of services, and give you a clear flat-fee quote. If it is a fit, we securely connect your accounts and onboard you, usually within two weeks. There is no pressure and no obligation.
Only if you want to. Many clients come to us because they have outgrown a solo bookkeeper or want more proactive tax advice. We make switching painless: we gather what we need, connect your accounts, and handle the transition so you barely feel it.
Most clients are fully onboarded within about two weeks. We securely connect your bank, credit card, payroll, and accounting accounts, bring your history into one place, and confirm your chart of accounts. If you are behind on your books, catch-up work may add time, which we scope upfront.
Yes. Our offices are in Kennesaw, Georgia and Flagstaff, Arizona, but we serve clients across the United States. With secure cloud accounting and virtual meetings, you get the same dedicated team and senior-CPA review no matter where your business is located.
To start, we typically need access to your bank and credit card accounts, your accounting file (QuickBooks or Xero), prior tax returns, and payroll details if applicable. We give you a simple checklist and a secure portal to upload everything, so nothing slips through the cracks.
Yes. We are a Xero Platinum Partner and a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, so we work directly in whichever platform you already use. If your file needs cleanup or a better chart of accounts, we handle that during onboarding so your reporting is accurate going forward.
Absolutely. Catch-up and clean-up bookkeeping is one of the most common ways clients start with us. We get your books current and accurate, then keep them that way with ongoing monthly service. We scope the catch-up work and quote it clearly before any work begins.
Yes. Every engagement starts with a free, no-pressure consultation. We will learn about your business, answer your questions, and show you exactly where we can help and what it would cost. New clients can also request a free review of their current books.
Pricing & billing
Pricing depends on your size and complexity. Our flat-fee monthly plans start at $595 for Essentials and $995 for Growth. You can get an instant estimate using the calculator on our pricing page, then we confirm your exact flat fee in a free consultation.
Your flat monthly fee is based on your transaction volume and complexity, including the number of bank and credit card accounts, payroll, entities, accrual versus cash accounting, and the services you need. You get one predictable monthly number instead of hourly bills that punish you for asking questions.
No. We use flat-fee monthly pricing so you never get a surprise invoice for a phone call or a quick question. You know exactly what you are paying each month, which makes budgeting simple and encourages you to actually use your accountant.
Yes. Our pricing page has an instant calculator. Enter details like your monthly transactions, accounts, payroll, and whether you need advisory, and it shows an estimated monthly range in real time. No email required. We confirm the exact flat fee in your free consultation.
Most engagements include a one-time onboarding to set up your software, chart of accounts, integrations, and first month-end close. We confirm any onboarding fee in your quote upfront, so there are no surprises after you sign on.
Yes. As your business grows or slows, we adjust your plan so you always pay for what you actually need. Many clients start with bookkeeping and add payroll, tax planning, or fractional CFO services as they scale.
No. You can start with just bookkeeping, just tax, or just payroll. Many clients begin with one service and expand over time. We will recommend the right mix for your situation and you decide what to include.
Recurring services are billed as a flat monthly fee, typically by automatic payment so you never have to think about it. One-time work like tax returns or catch-up bookkeeping is quoted separately and confirmed in writing before we begin.
Bookkeeping & accounting
Monthly bookkeeping includes categorizing your transactions, reconciling your bank and credit card accounts, and delivering clean financial statements, including a profit and loss, balance sheet, and cash flow. Everything is reviewed for accuracy so you always know where your business stands.
For most clients, books are reconciled and updated monthly, with statements delivered after each month-end close. Higher-volume businesses can move to more frequent updates. The goal is that you always have current, accurate numbers, not a year-end scramble.
Yes. Every month you receive clean, readable financial statements, including a profit and loss statement, balance sheet, and cash flow. We focus on making them understandable, not just technically correct, so you can actually use them to make decisions.
Cash accounting records income and expenses when money actually moves. Accrual accounting records them when they are earned or incurred, even if cash moves later. Accrual gives a truer picture of profitability and is often required as you grow or seek financing. We help you choose the right method.
Yes. Catch-up and clean-up bookkeeping is a core service. We reconcile prior months, fix miscategorized transactions, and rebuild an accurate chart of accounts. Once your books are current, ongoing monthly service keeps them clean so you never fall behind again.
Yes. We can manage accounts payable, including bill pay and vendor reconciliations, and accounts receivable, including invoicing and collections support. These are available as part of a tailored plan, since they add meaningful work beyond standard bookkeeping.
Yes. You get a real-time dashboard showing your cash, revenue, and profit any time you want, not 90 days after the fact. You also get a secure client portal to upload documents and access your reports from any device.
You get a dedicated team that knows your business, supported by modern technology that speeds up routine work and catches errors. A senior accountant or CPA reviews the work, so your books are accurate and a real person is always accountable for them.
Taxes
Yes. We prepare business returns and the personal returns of owners, and we coordinate the two so the whole picture is optimized. Keeping business and personal taxes under one roof helps us find savings that a siloed preparer would miss.
Tax preparation is filing an accurate return for the year that already happened. Tax planning is the proactive, year-round strategy that lowers what you owe before the year ends. The biggest savings come from planning, since most opportunities disappear after December 31.
The earlier the better. Most tax-saving moves must happen before December 31, so mid-year is ideal and earlier is better. Waiting until you file means the opportunities for that year are already gone. Proactive, year-round planning is where real savings come from.
Yes. Through proactive tax planning we look at your entity structure, retirement contributions, timing of income and expenses, and available credits and deductions. We model your options so every decision is made with the tax bill in view, helping you keep more of what you earn legally.
Yes. Multi-state filing is routine for us, whether you moved, expanded into new states, or operate across state lines. We handle the apportionment and nexus issues that come with doing business in more than one state.
We prepare returns for S corporations (1120-S), partnerships and multi-member LLCs (1065), and C corporations (1120), plus the personal returns (1040) of business owners. Every return is reviewed by a senior CPA before filing.
Yes. If you have unfiled returns, back taxes, or an IRS or state notice, we can help you understand it and respond. Start with a consultation so we can review your situation and lay out a clear path forward.
Yes. Every return is prepared by an experienced professional and reviewed line by line by a senior CPA before filing. Technology also checks the figures against your records, so returns are accurate and you can file with confidence.
Payroll
Yes. We offer full-service payroll that handles payroll runs, tax filings, deadlines, and compliance. It integrates with your bookkeeping so your wages, taxes, and reports all stay in sync, and you have one team accountable for the whole picture.
Yes. Payroll tax calculation, filing, and compliance are included. We make sure the right amounts are withheld and remitted and that filings happen on time, so the payroll deadlines become our responsibility, not yours.
Yes. We set up and pay contractors alongside your W-2 employees and handle year-end 1099s. Whether your team is employees, contractors, or a mix, we keep the setup and filings accurate and on time.
We support businesses from a single owner on payroll up through larger teams. Payroll pricing scales with the number of employees and pay frequency, and we tailor the setup to your team size and how often you run payroll.
Yes. If you have employees in more than one state, we handle the multi-state registrations, withholding, and filings that come with it. Multi-state payroll adds compliance complexity, and managing it correctly is part of what we do.
Advisory & CFO
Business advisory goes beyond compliance to help you run a better business. A fractional CFO gives you CFO-level strategy, including cash-flow planning, budgeting, forecasting, KPI dashboards, and decision support, without the cost of a full-time hire. You get the guidance when you need it.
Not every business does, and that is fine. Advisory is most valuable for growth-minded owners who want help reading their numbers, planning ahead, and making confident decisions. If you are scaling, raising money, or planning an exit, advisory often pays for itself.
Yes. Succession and exit planning are part of our advisory services. We help you understand what drives your business value, get your financials in order, and plan ahead so you can sell or transition on your terms when the time comes.
A fractional CFO helps you plan cash flow, build budgets and forecasts, track the metrics that matter, and make big decisions with data instead of guesswork. You get regular strategy sessions and a financial partner who sees the whole picture, on a part-time, affordable basis.
Technology, AI & security
Yes, behind the scenes. We use modern technology and AI to speed up routine work and catch errors before they become problems. It makes us faster and more accurate, but it never replaces the human looking out for you. A senior CPA reviews and signs off on everything you receive.
Always. Every return, report, and financial statement is reviewed by an experienced CPA before it reaches you. Technology does the heavy lifting on routine tasks, but a real person is accountable for accuracy and for the advice you receive.
We protect your data with bank-level encryption, a secure client portal, multi-factor authentication, and strict access controls so only your team can see your information. Your data is never sold or shared. See our Security and Privacy page for details.
We work in Xero and QuickBooks, the leading cloud accounting platforms. We are a Xero Platinum Partner and a QuickBooks ProAdvisor, so we use whichever fits your business best and connect it to your bank, payroll, and reporting tools.
You upload documents and sign forms through a secure client portal that works from any device. You do not need to email sensitive files. The portal keeps everything organized and protected, and gives you a single place to access your reports and records.

Cost, comparisons & choosing a firm
For most small businesses, outsourced bookkeeping runs roughly $300 to $1,500 a month depending on transaction volume, number of accounts, and how far behind the books are. RCN charges a flat monthly fee so there are no hourly surprises, and our pricing calculator gives you an instant estimate for your situation.
A CPA for ongoing accounting, tax planning, and returns typically costs a few hundred to a few thousand dollars a month, far less than a full-time hire once you include salary, benefits, and software. RCN bundles bookkeeping, tax, and advisory into one flat monthly fee so you know the cost upfront.
DIY and bargain bookkeeping usually cost more in the end. Miscategorized transactions, missed deductions, late filings, and unreconciled accounts lead to bigger tax bills, penalties, and decisions made on bad numbers. A senior CPA reviewing your books catches these before they become expensive problems.
Most owners outgrow DIY when bookkeeping eats hours they should spend running the business, when they are unsure their numbers are right, or when taxes start costing more than they should. If you are behind, guessing at profit, or scrambling every April, it is time to bring in a firm.
An in-house accountant costs a salary plus benefits and software, and you still only get one person’s skill set. Outsourcing to RCN gives you a full team, bookkeeper through senior CPA, for a flat monthly fee, with built-in backup and technology. Most small and mid-size businesses get more for less by outsourcing.
DIY software still leaves the work and the risk with you, and national online services often hand you a rotating cast with little tax strategy. RCN gives you a dedicated team, proactive year-round tax planning, and a senior CPA who reviews everything, with the responsiveness of a firm that treats your business like its own.
Yes. RCN is a licensed CPA firm led by Nneka Nwobi, CPA, MBA, rated 4.6 stars on Google with an A+ BBB rating. Clients most often mention responsiveness, clear advice, and tax savings that more than cover the fee. You can read client reviews and start with a free, no-pressure consultation.
Look for a licensed CPA firm with senior review, proactive tax planning (not just once-a-year filing), transparent flat-fee pricing, modern cloud tools, real client reviews, and industry experience that matches yours. Ask how they will save you money and how quickly they respond. RCN is built around all of these.
RCN CPAs serves small businesses across metro Atlanta from its Kennesaw, Georgia office (and Flagstaff, Arizona), pairing experienced CPAs with modern technology. With a 4.6-star rating, an A+ BBB rating, and flat-fee plans, RCN is a strong choice for owners who want proactive tax planning and clean books without the big-firm price tag.
