Privacy policy

What information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. In plain English.

Last updated June 2026

RCN CPAs & Business Advisors respects your privacy. As a CPA firm, we handle some of the most sensitive information you have, and protecting it is core to how we work. This policy explains what we collect through our website and our services, how we use it, and your rights.

Information we collect

We collect information you give us directly and a limited amount of technical information when you use our website.

  • Contact details you submit through forms (name, email, phone, company, and your message)
  • Financial and tax information you share with us when you engage our services
  • Documents you upload to our secure client portal
  • Basic website usage data (pages visited, device and browser type) collected through cookies

How we use your information

We use your information to respond to inquiries, deliver accounting, tax, and advisory services, communicate with you about your work, meet our professional and legal obligations, and improve our website.

We do not sell your information, and we do not share it with third parties for their own marketing.

Your tax return information (IRC §7216)

Federal law (Internal Revenue Code Section 7216) restricts how we may use and disclose the information you provide in connection with preparing your tax returns. We will not use or disclose your tax return information for any purpose other than preparing your returns without your prior written consent, except as permitted by law.

When we share information

We share information only when you ask us to, when it is needed to deliver your services, or when required by law.

  • With members of your dedicated RCN team who need it to do your work
  • With service providers that help us operate (for example, our document portal, Xero, and QuickBooks), under confidentiality obligations
  • With third parties you authorize, such as a lender or your attorney
  • When required by law, regulation, subpoena, or to protect our rights

How we protect your information

We maintain administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, consistent with the FTC Safeguards Rule and IRS guidance for tax professionals. See our Security & Privacy page for details on encryption, access controls, and our secure portal.

Text messaging (SMS)

When you submit a form on our website and provide your phone number, you agree that RCN CPAs may call or text you about your request (for example, to confirm we received it and to schedule your call). Message frequency varies, and message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier.

You can opt out of texts at any time by replying STOP, or reply HELP for help. Opting out of texts does not affect your services with us.

No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging opt-in data and consent are not shared with any third parties.

Cookies and analytics

Our website uses cookies to function properly and to understand how visitors use the site. You can control cookies through your browser. See our Cookies policy for more.

Advertising measurement

We advertise on Google. To understand which ads lead people to contact us, we share a scrambled (hashed) version of the email address you submit on our forms with Google, which uses it only to measure the performance of our own ads. Hashing means the address is converted into a string of characters before it leaves your browser, so it is not readable as an email address.

We do not share your phone number for advertising measurement, and we do not allow Google or any other advertising platform to use your information for their own marketing.

Data retention

We keep records for as long as needed to serve you and to meet professional, regulatory, and legal requirements, then dispose of them securely.

Your rights and choices

You can request a copy of the records we hold for you, ask us to correct information, or ask questions about how your data is handled. To make a request, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
